W ithout saying goodbye, Lucinda turned around and ran to her car, throwing it into gear and tearing off down the road.

She pushed the button on her dash that hooked her phone up to the Bluetooth connector of her car.

“Call Police Chief Stanard.”

Boy did she hate to call him, but as a private investigator, there were some things she couldn’t handle on her own.

For these things, she made sure that she had a direct line to his phone.

“Stanard,” his voice came through the car’s speakers.

“Hey Chief,” Lucinda said, her voice hurried and breathless. “We’ve got a problem.”

“Yeah, what’s that? You need my help don’t ya?”

“Yes, I do,” she admitted. It ripped her heart out to admit it, but she’d come to understand it was just part of the job. She did all the work, and the police chief got all the glory.

“Well, I thought you’d never ask.”

“Save it,” she fired back. “Listen, I know who killed Jenny Williams. It was Derek Simmons.” She read the address off to Chief Stanard and told him about the emails he’d exchanged with Audrey Cline and how a Dr. Warrens in Blountstown, Florida had done these horrific things. And then she said, “Derek Simmons is on his way to Blountstown right now. We need to find a way to stop him before he kills again!”
